Advice and Support for Parents/Carers of Autistic Young People
Advice and support sessions for parents and carers, designed to give you space to talk through your young person’s unique set of strengths and challenges, and explore areas of support.
⭐️ Develop Strategies for Supporting your Autistic Young Person
Explore areas such as sensory differences, autistic communication preferences and executive functioning. Consider your young person’s meltdown and shutdown triggers and explore ways to support them. Learn about key concepts related to neurodivergence, including the window of tolerance, the interest-based nervous system, demand avoidance and the link between autism and anxiety.
⭐️ Explore Emotionally-Based School Non-Attendance (EBSNA)
Consider barriers to attendance, looking at social, academic, cognitive and sensory demand. Learn about the reasonable adjustments that a school can put in place for a young person struggling to attend their setting. Explore practical alternatives to mainstream schooling, as well as ways to support and encourage learning during periods of non-attendance.
⭐️ Advocate for Your Young Person in School
Explore how best to advocate for your young person in their education setting, through developing your understanding of key areas such as the Graduated Approach to SEND. Learn about the reasonable adjustments that a school can put in place for an autistic young person.
Life Skills for Autistic Young People
Practical, in-person support for autistic young people who are struggling to access their community. Sessions are designed to improve well-being, build independence and allow young people to explore activities related to their hobbies and interests at a pace that suits them.
This service is suitable for autistic young people with high support needs, including those who are:
- Struggling to attend school
- Accessing a specialist educational provision
- Are situational non-speakers
- Experience significant anxiety which prevents them from engaging in social, leisure and educational activities
